Julia is a meteorologist, author, singer, and Florida native. She is dedicated to science, community, and the arts.

BROADCAST METEOROLOGY

Julia Haley is an on-air meteorologist at WLOS ABC News 13 in Asheville, North Carolina. She co-hosts the weekend morning newscast.

Julia has covered major weather events including hurricanes, landslides, earthquakes, and winter storms.

Her work has reached nearly 50 million homes nationwide across television, streaming, and digital platforms. She also contributes to national coverage through The National Desk and National Weather Desk, delivering weather and environmental reporting to audiences across the country.

Her experience spans local, regional, and national broadcast environments. She previously worked in Florida and New York City.

Leadership & Recognition

Julia is an active member of the American Meteorological Society, serving on two national committees.

She served as president of the Gator Chapter of AMS.

At age 20, she was named an Aspen Institute Future Climate Leader.

Children’s Book Author

Julia is the author of The Weather Watchers. The children’s book focuses on storm safety and STEM education.

It debuted as the #1 new release in “Science for Kids” on Amazon and became a top ten best seller.

All proceeds are donated to the American Red Cross to support hurricane relief in affected communities.

Singer & Performer

Julia is also an accomplished singer and performer.

She has performed at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall in New York City. She sung with professional and civic ensembles across Florida and North Carolina.

She continues her love for music as a member of the Asheville Choral Society.

Academic Achievements

Julia is pursuing a Master of Science in Geosciences (Applied Meteorology) at Mississippi State University (expected Summer 2026).

She holds dual Bachelor’s degrees in Geography (Broadcast Meteorology) and Vocal Performance from the University of Florida.

As a junior, she earned the Excellence in Multimedia Meteorology Award, from the UF College of Journalism and communications. The honor is typically awarded to graduating seniors.

She was recognized as the top geography student in her class and received the John R. and Fawn T. Dunkle Award.

She was selected for the University of Florida’s 100th Homecoming Court, representing more than 55,000 students as one of four top female student leaders.

Julia was later inducted into the University of Florida Hall of Fame, honoring her leadership, service, and STEM advocacy.
