IN THE HEART OF WINTER

Winter in WNC has been absolutely memorable so far! From a major ice storm to an early snow, there has never been a dull moment.

AN ICY START TO 2026

In January, I forecasted and reported on the major ice storm that impacted our region.

It is not often Asheville experiences the severity of ice that resulted from the event. It was imperative to educate the community on how to make the best decisions and prepare.

Outside in the storm, I kept tabs on our ice totals in Arden, NC and educated the public on the severity of ice. Later that afternoon, News 13 reported over 24,000 power outages in the region due to ice accretion throughout the day.

SAFE AND WARM

Before the major ice storm, I took part in News 13’s Safe and Warm drive. This event was imperative to the community because it allowed cold weather gear to be distributed to those in need almost immediately within the WNC community. As soon as we got donations, they were brought to crisis centers to give to those who need it.

Being able to help others and make a direct impact is one of the most meaningful parts of my experience in WNC.

AN EARLY SNOWFALL

In November 2025, we got an early taste of winter. Typically, our big snows are in December and January.

Winter in the middle of fall was absolutely beautiful!

BRINGING CONTEXT TO THE FORECAST

I occasionally make localized explainers for our community. Some of them have aired nationally throughout Sinclair stations!

WINTER WEATHER SPECIAL 2025

Winter weather can be hazardous. Our weather team put together our winter weather special to better educate the community. I talked about our recent snow drought and largest snows, as well as all things school and transportation.

Loving the snow every once in a while, and enjoying the winter atmosphere here in WNC!
