Summer is off to a busy start!
Preparing for Hurricane Season 2025
The Atlantic hurricane season is officially underway, and this year, I had the incredible opportunity to help bring our News 13 Hurricane Special to life here in Asheville. From tracking early tropical developments to spotlighting how our mountain region connects to national weather patterns, our team put together a thoughtful and timely program that I’m proud to share.
One major focus: Helene, which is a powerful reminder of just how vulnerable parts of the mountains can be. I sat down with an expert from the National Centers of Environmental Information, who helped us understand what Helene’s track might mean for future hurricane seasons here in the mountains.

Beyond the weather: i-40 rockslide
One of the most impactful events I’ve covered recently is the rockslide along I-40 during severe storms. I was able to adapt my forecast to include breaking coverage and insight within a few minutes of notice, along with geological insight on the “why” behind this incident, and if it will happen again.
Tropical Storm Chantal
Growing up in Florida, I’ve lived through and covered several tropical systems during hurricane season. I’ve made safety resources including a website and a book to better educate my community. I recently got to not only track…but cover…the first U.S. landfall of the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season from start to finish. Christmas In July
One of my personal favorite stories from this summer: talking all things Christmas in July! North Carolina is the second largest grower of Christmas trees in the nation, and first for Fraser Firs, which are the gold standard. I got to talk with local farmers on how these trees are recovering since Helene. It also aired for a national audience on The National Weather Desk!

Hurricane Erin was our first major hurricane of the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season. I covered its rapid intensification and impact to the Carolinas.
Upstate Earthquakes
We’ve had some abnormal activity. Seven earthquakes in one morning. Check out my article here. Additionally, within my first month on the job, I covered a magnitude 4.1 here.
I’ve been busy not only in the studio but also out in the community, and it’s been such a joy! From covering breaking weather to spotlighting local events, I love getting to know the people who make Western North Carolina so special.
